| Having rescued the lost heir of Lord
Blacktower, Nefret Forth, from the fabulous lost oasis in the Nubian
desert, Amelia and Emerson had a big problem on their hands.
They had to keep the oasis secret and provide a respectable back
story for Nefret to give her time to learn how to take her proper
place in English Society. She had many skills that she learned
at the oasis, but knife fighting was not recognized as a proper
achievement for a young lady.
In addition they had one more
problem, Nefret had brought back the ancient golden crook and flail
of the Nubian rulers. These authentic Egyptian treasures must
be taken as far away from the oasis and Nefret as possible to keep
the unscrupulous thieves away and the location secret. So...
why not take them back to Egypt and "find" them during a
dig? They leave Ramses and Nefret in the care of Walter and Evelyn
and head for Egypt.
But the best laid plans of even
Amelia often go astray. For someone has become suspicious and
Emerson is kidnapped to make him tell all. Only he has
suffered a blow to the head and doesn't remember anything, even
Amelia!
Amelia and Abdullah find and rescue
Emerson, but then they have to deal with his loss of
memory.
Amelia is told by the doctors to take
him back to his old haunts and pretend she just met him. He must
regain his memory of her in a natural way, not suddenly.
Their old friend Cyrus
Vandergelt (The Curse of the Pharaohs) helps in the deception.
They take Emerson and the crook and flail to Amarna to try to regain
Emerson's memory and arrange for the discovery. They also drag
along Bertha, the woman who was helping keep Emerson captive, on the
theory that it was better to have her where they could see her
instead of behind their backs. Bertha is very attractive and Emerson
seems to like her company.
Deception and double deception
results, with Emerson as one of the active players. And
everyone is not who they seem. Could the Master Criminal be
Involved, again?
