Egypt 332 BC - 30 BC
In 332 BC
Alexander the Great from Macedonia invaded Egypt and
established Alexandria. He and the family of Ptolomy, one
of his generals, ruled Egypt until 30 BC. In 30 BC, Cleopatra was defeated by the Romans in a battle at
Alexandria. The temple of Khnum at Esna was built during this time. Who were the two famous Romans who loved
Cleopatra? Yes, Julius Ceasar and Mark Anthony.
Prior to Alexander, Egypt was ruled by Persians invaders,
Nubians and various weak Egyptian rulers. But before
that, the most famous Pharaohs of the New Kingdom
conquered much of the Middle East.
But a lot happened between the New
Kingdom and the arrival of Alexander.
