Muslim Egypt 641AD -1500 AD
The oldest parts
of Cairo were built by Muslims out of Arabia, Tunisia and
Baghdad. Cairo or al-Qahirah was established by Tunisian
invaders in 900 AD. They built the Cairo of the Middle
Ages. Saladin, the famous warrior who fought against the
Christian Crusader ruled during this period and
established the Citadel and the huge walls of
"Old Cairo".
Cairo has the more buildings from the Middle Ages than any city in the world.
During this period, William the Conquer invaded England
and Richard the Lionheart fought in the Crusades. Robin
Hood outwitted the Sheriff of Nottingham, and King John
granted the Magna Carta.Before
the Muslims, there was a period of chaos when the Roman
Empire fell.
