You have to find clues to use with other clues in order to continue and find more clues...LOL. It's great. The graphics are fantastic in my opinion. I love that there is no time limit and you are not really penalized for using hints. You have a time limit on how often you can use hints, but that's it. I try not to use them at all...but sometimes you have to. Mystery of the Crystal Portal is agGreat game in every aspect even though I haven't gotten very far into it. Someone said that the game didnt prompt you when you had found all the items, but mine did. If you can't do more in a level without switching locations, the NPC that was there would tell you. And when there is nothing left to find, it tells you "level complete". I had no problem with this, except it was short. There is a prologue, five locations, and an end....I played Mystery of the Crystal Portal with the sounds off because they were kind of irritating... But it was nice that there was no time limit except waiting for hints if you needed them. Mystery of the Crystal Portal tells you which clues are key clues because the cursor changes, so i think anyone who has played a lot of these games will appreciate the uniqueness of this one.
