Michael Manley is a boy who loves adventure. He has red hair, loads of confidence and loves to tinker and fix things. He reads adventure stories and lots of action packed comic books. He wants to fight pirates, find the treasure and discover a secret formula, all before he is eleven.

Suzie Manley is the older sister of Michael Manley. She likes Michael, but he is "a handful" as their mother Amanda says. Their father, Martin, likes to say that Michael is "a chip off the old block".

Suzie keeps an eye on Michael and makes sure his adventures and projects don't end in disaster.

Suzie wants to be just like her mom. She reads everything she can get her hands on, and is a bit of a nerd. She knows a lot of interesting things and is able to help Michael stay out of trouble most of the time. Suzie is just discovering boys, and is not particularly interested. She is confident and knowledgeable and wants to make a great scientific discovery sometime soon.

Martin Manley, their dad, is a consulting engineer who works all over the world. Amanda Manley, their mom, is an archeologist who digs in Egypt.

The family travels together when they can. Sometimes, Michael and Suzie split up. Suzie always goes to Egypt to her mother during her school vacations and Michael and his father sometimes travel elsewhere.
